Children First at Morris P-8

A partnership with Huntsville First United Methodist Church, the purpose of Children First is to assist in the education of at-risk children by supplying food for the weekend so they will return to school each Monday ready to learn. The program also furnishes tutoring to individual students in reading and math, creates incentives for literacy in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program and provides effective support to teachers in the classroom in the form of room parents, supplies, and other assistance. The Junior League of Huntsville volunteers compile and deliver weekly meal packs for Morris students in need who might not be properly fed at home over the weekend. JLH volunteers also serve as room parents who assist Morris teachers in a variety of ways.
